California Debt Settlement System | Justice Foundation
We’re at the midpoint of June. This post is a practical audit — a checklist of where your debt resolution should be at this point in your process, and specific actions to take in the second half of the month to maintain momentum.
Foundation Items (Should Be Complete)
Credit report pulled from all three bureaus in the past 90 days. Account inventory built — every debt listed with current owner, balance, date of first delinquency, SOL expiration date, and current collection status. Debt validation letters sent to every active collector (certified mail, green cards retained). DFPI license status verified for every collector currently contacting you. CFPB complaint filed for any documented FDCPA violation. Payment ledger current — every amount owed and received documented with dates.
Settlement Items (In Progress or Upcoming)
Priority accounts identified by SOL proximity and lawsuit risk. Opening settlement offers sent to highest-priority accounts. Responses received and counter-offers prepared. At least one settlement agreement in writing and awaiting payment (or already paid). Credit report monitoring in place for the 60 days post-settlement verification window.
Credit Rebuilding Items (If You’ve Completed Any Settlements)
Secured credit card opened and first statement received. Autopay set up on full balance. Credit-builder loan application in progress or complete. Monthly payment reminder set so nothing is missed. Annual credit report check scheduled for 6 months from today.
What to Focus On This Month
If you’re in active negotiations, send counter-offers this week rather than waiting. If you’ve completed a settlement, pull your credit report in 30 days to verify correct reporting. If you’re facing a lawsuit, file your Answer before the 30-day deadline and initiate discovery. The Justice Foundation kit organizes all of these items in a single case management system.
